Here comes
some society information about Terceira. The statistics are from 2001,
from Servico Regional de Estatistica dos Acores, 2003. Some statistica
are from Terceira, others over the whole Azores. When the statistics
are from Azores it is in parenthesis (Azores).
At Terceira
there is compulsory education in nine years. The island have a university
with ten faculties and a nursing school. The official religion is catolicism.
Imigrants on the island mostly consist of people from the other acorian
islands. Many people work as farmers (with cows) or as fishermans. Women
from the older generation are mostly housewifes. People live in stone
houses, often many generations together. The children usually lives
with their parents until they get married and build their own house.
